Scott’s Body Shop Evolves into Car Center: Embracing Change While Honoring Legacy

In the heart of Big Rapids, a beacon of automotive excellence continues to shine, albeit under a new name. Scott’s Body Shop, a household name for over half a century at 10811 Northland Drive, has recently transitioned to Car Center, marking a new chapter in its storied legacy.

This change comes with the torch being passed within the Edwards family. Nick Edwards, son of  Bill Edwards and Mike Enzer, has stepped up as the new proprietor. With a rich history dating back to August 2004 under his father’s stewardship, Nick has not only embraced the legacy but also infused it with his vision. Prior to this, he successfully oversaw the management of three other collision centers – Car Center-Greenville, Car Center-Cedar Springs, and Car Center-Grand Rapids, indicating a deep-rooted commitment to the family business.

Sylvia Edwards, the former owner, reflects on the transition with a sense of pride and nostalgia. “The consistency of family and multi-generational business is important,” she says. This sentiment is echoed by the community who have come to rely on the quality and reliability synonymous with the shop. The emotional connection with the name ‘Scott’s Body Shop’ resonates deeply within the community, making the name change a significant event.

Under Nick’s leadership, the shop has already seen significant upgrades, including the addition of a double paint booth and a revamped office space complete with a conference room. These improvements, completed in July 2018, are a testament to the business’s commitment to growth and adaptation.

Despite the name change, the essence of the business remains. Car Center continues to offer a comprehensive array of services such as vehicle body work, painting, frame adjustments, and glass installation. The new name symbolizes a blend of tradition and modernity, assuring the community of continued exemplary service that they have come to expect from this establishment.

The Edwards family’s deep-rooted presence in the Big Rapids community extends beyond business. Their commitment to local causes, including support for the Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center and local school achievement programs, underscores their dedication to the community’s welfare.

As Nick Edwards steps into the role of steward for this new era of the family business, he carries with him the values of small business – a commitment to quality, community, and personal touch. The transition from Scott’s Body Shop to Car Center is more than a mere change of name; it is a continuation of a legacy, a promise to keep evolving while holding true to the values that have been the cornerstone of this family business for over five decades.
